Fellows Creek – South Course | Monday League Night | June 10, 2025
I was on fire through the first six.
Smart targets. Solid swings. Driver on a string. I even drained a 20-footer from the fringe on Hole 2 to save par — in the rain. It felt like one of those rare golf nights where the routine clicks, the ball listens, and you start to believe you might finally be figuring this game out.
And then came Hole 7.
My hybrid sliced across the fairway, cleared the creek, and dove into a thicket of shrubs never to be seen again. A bad omen. Two water balls on 8 followed. Then I limped to the finish with a full-body 4-putt on 9 that echoed off the cart barn and my pride.
But here’s the thing: I still tied for first in the weekly game (poker-style scoring — I made a straight with Holes 4 through 8). And I came in second for the night overall. So… not exactly the meltdown it felt like at the time.

🧠 What Worked
- G.R.A.C.E. routine felt dialed in early
- Driver was confident and reliable — 4/7 fairways, no lost tee balls
- Target commitment through Hole 6 was maybe my best league stretch yet
- That 20-foot fringe save on 2 is going in the mental highlight reel
😵 What Didn’t
- Hybrid on 7 brought a hard momentum shift
- Mental reset after back-to-back water balls? Not quite there yet
- Putting fatigue showed up in full on 9 — tempo, patience, focus all wavered
♠️ Bonus Points
- Poker Game Winner (Tied): Scored a straight (4, 5, 6, 7, 8)
- League Finish: 2nd place overall for the night
💬 Final Takeaway
The first six holes were some of my best league play all year. The last three? A vivid reminder that fatigue, weather, and emotion can undo even a strong round. But I’m learning. And that par save in the rain? Worth every drop.
