Teeing Off
Playing Through is a smart, honest golf blog chronicling one recreational golfer’s pursuit of progress, from range routines to round reviews. It’s a space for stubborn optimism, practical tools, and learning by playing for laughs as much as for lower scores.
Finding My Swing Again
I started Playing Through as a way to track my return to golf—and to make sense of the mess of information, advice, and well-meaning swing tips I ran into along the way.
After a long break from the game, I came back eager to improve, but quickly found myself overwhelmed by the flood of online resources and the nonstop stream of algorithmically-suggested swing tweaks every time I opened social media. I knew enough to know that most of those tips were technically sound—but not all of them were meant for me.
So I took a few lessons. And pretty quickly, I realized something: nothing my coach was helping me with would stick unless I practiced—deliberately and consistently. And I know enough about both golf and my life to know that time is limited, so every practice session has to count. Playing Through is how I track what’s working, reflect on what isn’t, and remind myself that improvement takes more than “fix your swing in 3 minutes” — it takes patience, intention, and the occasional spreadsheet.
Who’s Swinging?
Hi, I’m Julie. I’m not a pro. I’m not a beginner. I’m just a golfer with a spreadsheet, a short game routine, and a stubborn belief that I can get better with time.
Playing Through started as a way to track my practice and improvement—and maybe make a few people laugh along the way. I play in a couple of leagues, take far too many notes after each round, and genuinely enjoy the challenge of figuring out what works (and what very much doesn’t).
When I’m not on the course, I work in campaign strategy and organizational consulting—helping progressive teams build smart plans, strong systems, and the kind of resilient culture that actually lasts.
Off the clock, you’ll usually find me with friends and family (I’m the proud aunt of five brilliant nieces and two energetic nephews), traveling somewhere new, reading something interesting, or hiking the woods with my German shepherd, Leia.
If you’ve ever watched your ball slice into the trees, taken four shots to get out of a bunker, or whispered “don’t chunk it” before promptly chunking it—welcome. You’re among friends here.
The Game Plan
Playing Through is a golf blog for people who are serious about improving, but not too serious about themselves. You’ll find round recaps, practice plans, mindset strategies, and training tools—plus printable resources and the occasional reflective rabbit hole (Off Course Notes).
The tone is honest, strategic, and occasionally funny—because if you’re not laughing a little while chasing par, you’re probably not doing it right.
Here’s what’s at the core of the blog:

Beyond the Scorecard
Round recaps with more than just numbers—what went right, what went sideways, and what I learned from both.

Practice Makes Par
Drills, session plans, and how I’m making the most of my practice time without reinventing my swing every week.

Course Corrections
Game improvement insights, swing thoughts worth testing, and notes from lessons, coaches, and trial-and-error.

Off the Tee
Fitness, mobility, and routines that support my game without turning my life into a training camp.

Mental Notes
On-course mindset, performance pressure, and learning to recover after a blow-up hole—or four.

Bag of Tricks
Printable resources, routines, and visuals—aka the practical stuff that keeps my game (mostly) on track.
